The Unitary Patent System, a system that will provide a single, Unitary Patent (UP) and a single Unified Patent Court (UPC) for currently 17 member states of the EU, will most probably enter into force next year. It is time for patent owners to decide on how to protect their patents in Europe when it all starts. The starting date is currently set for 1 June 2023, which means that the Sunrise-period starts on 1 March 2023.
