Mats is a Senior Partner, specializing in trademarks, design and copyright as well as the implementation of IP strategies. He has worked at Groth & Co since 1996 and was CEO from 2016 to 2023. From 2001 to 2023 he was head of Law and Trademark Department. Mats has many years’ experience in intellectual property law, risk analysis, name choice, preliminary surveys, trademark valuations, licensing agreements and due diligence both within the EU and globally. He has assisted leading Swedish and international companies in structuring their IP strategies and implementing their business models.

Mats is a former Council Member of the ECTA (European Communities Trademark Association), previous Chairman of the The Association of Intellectual Property Law Firms in Sweden (SEPAF), and a Board Member of Skriptor AB, Markify AB and Stockholm IP Law Review. Mats has published articles on a number of subjects, including the Community Trademark and evaluation of trademarks and is co-author of ”Riskerna med varumärken, produkter och reklam”.

Mats is a member of the Groth & Co Board of Directors.

Mats lectures on EU Law and IP Law at the University of Uppsala/International Trade Law and has assisted the Swedish Patent and Registration Office in their education programmes. He has also been lecturing at the Swedish Parliament on intellectual property rights and export strategies.

Since 2009, Mats is named by Who’s Who Legal as one of Sweden’s leading trademark lawyers, and he has also been named an IP Star by Managing Intellectual Property, MIP, every year since 2014.

For 20 years Mats has acted as moderator during the Trademark Day seminars.
